Students will create their own bacteria cell (aka. prokaryote cell). MOST OF THIS IS EDITABLE, except the pictures, in case you want to modify any terms or definitions (change the wording to make it simpler or more complex, or add more detail) depending on your grade level. This activity is AWESOME to include in a science interactive notebook. This product is a zip file that contains a pdf document and a Microsoft Word document (version 97-2003).
USE IT FOR AN INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK – Have your students color, cut out, and glue the bacteria cell into the interactive notebook or on a blank piece of paper. Then have your students hand write in the names of the bacteria cell's parts. You can either give the students the page that has the bacteria's parts labeled or the page that doesn't have them labeled. You decide! It’s great for differentiating instruction!
OR USE IT FOR A GROUP PROJECT: Instead of just having your students identify the basic parts of a bacteria cell, take it a step further, and have your students identify the definition for each cell part as well (see preview). For this part, INSTEAD of placing it on a blank piece of paper, or into a interactive notebook, you will have your students place the bacteria cell on a LARGE construction paper (12 in. X 14 in. at least) and then paste the cell, its terms and definition on it.
This product includes:
- Blank bacteria cell
- Basic parts of a bacteria cell color & cut page WITH labels.
- Basic parts of a bacteria cell color & cut page WITHOUT labels (for differentiating instruction or to provide more of a challenge)
- Answer Key Example
Structures Covered: cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes, cell wall, pili, flagellum, genetic material (DNA), capsule, plasmid
